Unifying Research Fields

All laboratories of CIRM are encouraged to contribute and participate to CIRM interdisciplinary research projects.

Four main research fields answering to actual pharmaceutical and clinical needs have been identified offering the opportunity to bring together the skills of CIRM entities.

Those challenging research fields are:

1. Target and lead discovery:

From the discovery and the validation of new drug targets to the synthesis or extraction of novel pharmacologically active small molecules, development of biologics, their characterization, quality control, formulation and in vitro testing.

2. Analytical strategy and data treatment:

Development of innovative analytical methods, strategies and chemometrics in the framework of improved quality control of pharmaceuticals, biopharmaceuticals including virus like-particles (vaccines) and falsified medicines.

3. Advanced drug delivery and therapy:

- Targeted drug-delivery systems using liposomes and other nanoparticules: from formulation and characterization to in vitro and in vivo testing, quality controls, pharmacokinetics, toxicological studies and production methods.

- Towards a better delivery of drugs using the delivery of optimized dosage forms.

4. Biomarker research and personalized medicine:

Towards personalized pharmaceutical care, better diagnostic, prognostic and patient follow-up using new holistic approaches such as metabolomics, proteomics and a combination of various and analytical tools.
